This amazingly intricate double buffet from the Brittany region was constructed from pine around 1850. The upper portion features dozens of hand-carved balusters, and ten “ships wheels” that decorate the front of the doors featuring an interior panel of red cloth. The doors on the base are carved in deeply incised geometric patterns. All four doors feature elongated brass escutcheons and brass fiche hinges. The edges of both the upper and lower portions, as well as the feet are intricately carved in floral motifs that create continuity throughout the armoire’s numerous designs. This beautiful piece is wonderfully rare and in excellent condition for its age and size.
